The Hacienda Healthcare story of a young woman sexually assaulted and impregnated by a staffer was a story every Arizonan read with horror.

It was universally understood Arizona must do better to protect vulnerable patients.

After the story broke, I worked with Senator Brophy McGee to introduce SB1211. Our bill requires intermediate-care facilities to comply with state licensing requirements, expands state oversight, strengthens employee background checks and interagency information sharing, and requires employees and personnel to report abuse.

Last week, SB1211 was unanimously approved by the House and transferred to the Governor who has indicated support for the bill. I look forward to SB1211 being signed into law so these facilities receive the oversight they deserve.
