One of my areas of focus at the Arizona Capitol is advocating for compassionate, commonsense solutions so Arizona seniors can age comfortably. I’ve been fortunate to work with the Arthritis Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society and many other organizations on initiatives designed to provide our parents and grandparents the care they need while maintaining a sense of independence.

Last year, I introduced the Arizona Family Caregiver Tax Credit that would provide up to a $1,000 income tax break for family caregivers. The tax break can be used to offset costs associated with home alterations to improve mobility and independence of care recipients, employing outside care or transportation services. There is also an income cap on eligible recipients.

My work with these outstanding organizations, plus my effort on the Arizona Family Caregiver Tax Credit, earned me the 2016 AARP Caregivers Award. I was deeply honored to receive this award on behalf of my work with older Arizonans. I will continue to work towards commonsense policies that improve their lives.
